Day 2 Sighetu Marmatiei - Beautifull Iza Valley - Viseu de Sus

   Barsana Monastery

   Visit Barsana Monastery, a new wooden construction that brings age old traditions in the 21st century. Witness modern naive paintings inside.

   We visit a woodcarving workshop to see how this tradition is maintained in Maramures.

   Poienile Izei Church of Saint Parascheva

   Poienile Izei must be one of the most secluded villages in Maramures, yet it has a UNESCO woodchurch. We visit village and church.

Day 3 Tour with steam train - Drive to Bukovina

   We tour with the narrow gauge steam train on a picturesque narrow valley, with barely any inhabitants. At noon we, at the far end of the train route we enjoy a grill lunch.

   Moldovita Monastery

   In the late afternoon we visit our first moldavian monastery at Moldovita, in the region called Bukovina. A combination of gothic style and oriental paintings, the monasteries were fortified, offering shelter to locals.

Day 4 Sistine Chapel of the East - Eggpainting Demo - Drive to Cluj

   In the morning we visit the Voronet Monasterty - also known as the Sistine Chapel of the East - for its beautiful painting in typical blue hue.

   In Vama, we visit a museum focused on painted easter eggs. A regional tradition, the locals found different ways of obtaining the natural colours needed. We find out more during the egg painting demonstration.

   Bistrita

   2 hours

   Short stop in the medieval city of Bistrita, once a center of the german settlers in northern Transylvania. We visit the old lutheran church in the center.
